The green, green grass of.... the park

Mom says there is a song that goes something like that, and apparently she even know who sang it (about a million years ago, I might add). I blame Mom's knowledge of such hokey things on Granny and Grandpa. Mom also sings old country and western songs in the car. I mean, she's got Tammy Wynette on her iPod. The shame of it. At least she doesn't have the windows rolled down All The Way when she's doing this. However, it explains why Abby and I don't hang our heads out the windows like normal dogs; we're hiding our heads in shame. Porter Wagner? Really? Oy. Johnny Cash is fine (although Mom singing Johnny Cash, is, well, less fine...). Even the first two Hank Williams are fine. But there are some things on her iPod that are downright frightening. Like the guy who looks like Merle Haggard? And it's even more frightening when Mom knows ALL the words. I swear, Granny and Grandpa have some explaining to do. And probably some therapy bills to pay...

But I digress. Mom's grass hasn't really, ah, taken root yet. There are some green things poking up here and there, but I think they are weeds. However, Mom says "anything green is good" so we'll humor her. But since she's still holding out hope for her little grass seeds, all of our zooming must be done at the park.

So, we went to the little park at the bottom of our neighborhood today. We got haircuts yesterday (Mom said we were looking wooly, and since we've finally got warm weather - today was in the mid 70s), so we had to show them off, first.

As you can see, we're not totally nekkid, but we're all sleek and plushy-like. And we've still got floofy tails (well, we still don't measure on the Sibe Scale of Floofiness (SSF), but we don't have rat tails).

Okay, enough with the posing. Throw the ball!!! Dad had a minor surgery on his shoulder on Friday, and isn't supposed to throw tennis balls, and Mom, well, Mom throws like a girl, so Mom got a ChuckIt, so Dad could chuck the tennis balls without tearing out his stitches. Which is good, I suppose. We just wanted the tennis balls flying!

Oh yeah!!! Serious tennis ball action!

Zoom-zoom!

Heehee. She's going in about 5 different directions at once!

But it was perfect weather, and perfect tennis ball chasing conditions - the grass wasn't too wet, or too dry, and the ball just sailed through the air. Good times!

Yep. We're happy dogs. Even if Mom has a frightening taste in music!

Wordy Wednesday

Hi y'all! So, after snow on Sunday and Monday,

...this was Monday...

it warmed up to the 60s yesterday (yes, we went from a high of 40 on Monday to a high of almost 70 on Tuesday...)

We haven't done any serious bitey-face as of late (no, really!) because Mom had this silly plan to throw down some grass seed, in an attempt to keep the dust at bay this summer. Why is Mom attempting to grow grass? Well, some of you may recall last summer when Abby changed colors after a vigorous session of bitey-face. If you look at the pictures in that post, most of our yard was dirt, and apparently somebody (clearly Abby) was tracking lots of dust into the house. Anyhoo, yesterday Mom did the fertilizing, seeding, watering thingy, and now we're not allowed to bitey-face in the yard.

Seriously.

"But Fiona," I hear you saying, "what will you DO?!?"

Frankly, I asked Mom that same question. And she said... The Park!!!

Not entirely as good as bitey-facing one's sister, but chasing tennis balls is a close second!!!

Good times!

Frankly, we're kind of wondering why Mom wants to grow her own grass when there's plenty of lovely grass at the park, but apparently Mom is dead-set on trying to keep Abby her original color. Huh. Go figure. Oh well. I can handle the park for a long while!

Heehee.

So, Um, Happy Unofficial Start to Summer

Mom says that Memorial Day Weekend is the 'unofficial start to summer'. Ya know, as well as being a time to recognize the 'some who gave all'. And we haven't forgotten that part. We'd be flying our flag all weekend, except by law, civilians such as ourselves aren't supposed to fly a flag in inclement weather, unless it's an all-weather flag.... Although, Dad just said our flag IS an all-weather flag, so I'm going to make Mom dash out in the snow to fly our flag.

Yes, snow.

Yesterday afternoon, Abby and I were frolicking in the first decent weather we've had in months...

Mom was even thinking she might start to do some yardwork. And then, last night, after dinner it started snowing. Mom had seen the snow in the forecast, but didn't really believe it. She figured there'd be a few flakes, and then it would turn back to rain.

Instead, last night was like we were living in a snow globe!

And then, Mom figured when we woke up this morning the snow would all be melted.

Not so much.

It has been snowing all morning, although the radar looks like the storm might move through in the next hour or two. But it's supposed to snow again tonight and part of tomorrow.

While Mom and Dad are bemoaning the 33 degree temps and the inclemency of the weather, Abby and I are doing our best to take advantage of the situation. Because bitey-face in new snow is ALWAYS good. Even if it is almost June. And the unofficial start of summer....

Looks like summer to me! Heehee.

So while Mom is whining about the snow, Abby and I are loving every minute of it. I mean, it's not like it's going to snow forever, ya know.... It's only late May...

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Don't forget to fly your all-weather flag in honor of all of our veterans and current service men and women!

This was taken yesterday before the snow started falling....

A door

I'm sure you've heard the famous Ogden Nash quote: "A door is what a dog is perpetually on the wrong side of."

Well, Abby IS that dog.

Seriously. When she's out she wants in, and when she's in she wants out.

Mom was all into the idea of a doggie door until somebody pointed out that the racoons would LOVE for us to have a doggie door. So, either Abby has to learn to open the door herself, or we have to hire a doorman.

Heehee.

And, Mom seriously hopes this will be the last bitey-face-in-new-snow photo for a few months. (This was taken on Friday...)

Seriously? The last snow of the season? I think Mom's being a little unreasonable. I mean, it's only the end of May...

Heehee.

For those of you who were wondering about the snow...

Here it is!!!

No. Really. Snow. And for some reason, Mom doesn't want us wrestling in it. Something about 'mudballs with feet' or something. I dunno. She's a kill-joy that way.

Happy May 18th everyone!

Springtime Playtime!

Mom was a little under the weather (nothing serious, she was just a little worn out today) so Abby and I got a lot of backyard playtime today. And Abby is ready to play 24 hours a day. Seriously. This girl could be the answer to world's energy problems. I'm just saying...

But if the wee beastie wants to play, as an obliging older sister, the least I can do is, well, oblige her.

A little frisbee time...

A lot of bitey-face time...

Don't let those picture make you think Abby is smacking me down. I've got the psychological advantage... Heehee.

She thinks a little showing of teeth will intimidate me, but she would be wrong...

I prefer to sink my teeth into her, rather than just show them to her...

Heehee.

But I love my sister.

Really. I do!

I can't imagine bitey-face without her!
