Another Day at the Park

On Saturdays our usual walking trail is invaded by tons of people on bicycles who don't know the rules and/or don't have the courtesy to warn people when they come up on them from behind so Mom and Dad like to take Saturdays 'off' from our walks. But since we still need our exercise, Mom and Dad take us to the park in our neighborhood, instead.

Which is cool, because there is much zooming involved.

Zoom-zoom!

Lard Butt, erm, Abby actually zooms around, too.

Nothing like having the whole park to ourselves to run full out!

Is it me, or does Abby look abnormally LONG there? Heehee!

C'mon, Dad, throw the ball!!!!

They don't call me The Amazing Flying Fi-sters for nothing, you know! Teehee!

Seriously, can you have enough zoomie pictures? Nah, I didn't think so.

It has been hot (for us), so even when we go out in the morning, we get pretty hot and tired from all the zooming, and even I slow down after a while!

I'm done now. Let's go home!

And it leaves Abby totally pooped. At least for a little while, so it's all good!

Heehee!

Moose update: Our moosies have ventured elsewhere in the neighborhood - apparently they weren't super excited about some of the trucks that were going up and down our street and disturbing their rest. However, Momma Moose seems to be a sharp one, and I'm sure Baby Moose is being well taken care of. If there are any more sightings, I'll be sure to let you know. And Mom wants you all to know that while she worries about dog-moose interactions (and is also not so excited about cleaning up their, uh, 'parting gifts'), she realizes how Super Cool it is to live someplace where we have moosies (literally) out our front door. And Mom will admit that she really couldn't get enough of Baby Moose - Mom was on the front porch For Ages taking pictures of them. I think Baby Moose knew it and was posing!

See! I think Baby Moose is smiling for the camera!

Heehee.

ya baby moose is all, "dat's right! we bad. and i'm da bomb."

ya, as a cyclist and a dog walker, omg, i so know what you mean. when i ride, i ALWAYS make a little noise or better yet, say hello not to startle the dog or owner. and if the dog startles, i make my way by very quickly so owner can have a nice walk. or i stop and pet the doggie if they are interested in saying hello. as a dog walker, it makes me furious when riders won't be polite and yield, especially since i will go out of my way to harness my beasts so they can safely get by. i had a similar incident in 2008 when i first got loki (you can check back in the archives). an old dude on a bike who was drunk and fumbled a wee little ant hill climb was flipping Loki off and yelling at him to shut up. Loki was completely brand new to me then and a little reactive when startled by bikes so he had barked a little bit (but not today --he's totally unaffected by them). it just infuriates me when people dont' understand that they need to think it through that not all dogs are not yet dessensitized to all distractions. I don't assume all dogs like bikes just because they're off leash. and in fact while on a bike 2 years ago, i was bit by an off-leash cattle dog. son of bitch bit my index finger! man, i thought for sure most dogs who don't like bikes would stop if you freeze. not true. this one bit me. the owner was sorry but cluelss and as i had my bleeding gushing finger held up, did she offer to help me bandage it or clean it? no. she was probably high as she didn't have the common sense of a hillbillie. but also having a "reactive dog" like hers (not nearly as bad as hers) i couldn't be too angry, as I know my dog wasn't perfect and i made my own handling errors, but at least i've always mad efforts to correct and teach my dog and keep my dogs away from things that scared them. i'm glad i dessensitzed them to bikes, and to rolling luggage (ya, he barked at rolling luggage on the streets of downtown) and to scooters and skateboards. none of those things ever affect my dogs now, but man, as a rider, i never assume all dogs are like mine knowing that at one time, they did affect them. the only thing that they will react to now? running dogs, running horses, running sheep, running cats, just about any prey animal or dog that's running. sigh. but at least they recall...

ugh. infuriating.

Your park looks like it is fun too!

We have had bike run-in before. Sometimes they can be so rude!

We feel so sorry for short eared dogs that can't have that flappy thing going on when they do zoomies.

Love the zoomies. Did we tell you that our place here in Idaho is called Smiling Moose POint?? It is! We didn't have any moose calves this year though...probably due to the hard winter we had. Love your little smiling moose though.

Oh - I still can't over how CUTE that baby moose is!!!

Ooh, we know about psycho cyclists too! There used to be lots of them in Brisbane and although offically, the sidewalk was supposed to be "SHARED" - they used to just whizz down at super speeds and MOW down anybody in their paths! They used to get very grumpy when my humans walked with me because I was so big that they couldn't just MOW me down - so they had to slow down and go carefully around me - hah! Serve them right! But they did give my humans dirty looks, though, and one yelled somethign really nasty to them. It was so unfair coz we are suposed to SHARE the footpath. Anyway, so after that we started walking on the grass instead of the paths...

Slobbers,.

Nice zoomies; if you can zoom that much, though, 'hot for you' is probably not as hot as 'hot for us' is. If you catch our drift.

Around here, it's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk. They have to use the street, which is fine with us. There are trails in park areas where there can be some walking/biking interaction, however. Mama walks with a cane, which is handy if a bike gets too close. She knows ladies who do their walkies with a golf club - seriously - which is also a useful deterrent. [Or deterrant - mama's too lazy to look it up at this hour.]
